  On July 24th, the Consulate-General of Japan in Houston hosted a pre-departure orientation and send-off reception for this year’s group of 60 outgoing JET Program participants at the official residence.

  During the orientation, the Consulate’s JET Program Coordinator shared tips on getting settled as a new program participant, and the travel agent gave a briefing on departure and arrival logistics. Additionally, Professor Ozaki from Rice University provided a session covering Japanese language and culture. Finally, Ms. Yamanaka from QUICK USA and Ms. Iraha from Pasona gave presentations discussing professional development after the JET Program.

  At the reception, Consul-General Koyama congratulated the participants and wished them great success at their respective placements. Remarks were also delivered by Ms. Brown, President and CEO of Japan America Society of Houston, and Ms. Jones of the JET Alumni Association Texas-Oklahoma Chapter, both of whom shared their own experiences as JET alumni and offered valuable advice. Finally, Ms. Charbonnet, a representative from the outgoing JET cohort concluded the reception with an inspiring speech that expressed her enthusiasm for the journey ahead.
