On July 24, Consul-General Koyama attended the opening ceremony of Anime Matsuri, held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. The largest anime convention in Texas, Anime Matsuri (Anime and Japanese Culture Convention) celebrated its landmark 20th anniversary this year. During the ceremony, Consul-General Koyama offered his heartfelt congratulations to the organizers, volunteer staff, and fans of Anime Matsuri. He also expressed his sincere appreciation for the convention’s two decades of contributions toward fostering cultural exchange and strengthening friendly relations between Japan and the United States through Japanese popular culture. In recognition of this remarkable milestone, a Harris County representative presented a proclamation issued by Judge Hidalgo to Anime Matsuri.

On July 25 and 26, our Consulate was present on the convention floor, providing guests with the opportunity to learn about and create kabuki makeup designs and take photographs using Japan-related backdrops. Attendees were also introduced to the JET (Japan Exchange Teaching) Program¹ by staff members from the Consulate.

The Consulate-General of Japan in Houston remains committed to collaborating with cultural organizations across Texas and Oklahoma to showcase Japanese culture, including pop culture, and foster friendship between Japan and the United States.
