イケバナ・インターナショナル・ダラス支部50周年記念式典での挨拶
2008年4月19日

在ヒューストン日本国総領事 大澤勉

Thank you everyone, I am most honored to be invited to be here with you tonight.

Let me start by offering congratulations on this 50th anniversary of the Dallas Chapter of Ikebana International.

I’m amazed to think that 50 years ago, only 13 years after World War II, your members began practicing Ikebana at a time when it was probably difficult to participate in Japanese activities.

Of course all one needs to do is look at an Ikebana arrangement to realize that natural beauty and peacefulness transcend all other things.

Over the past 50 years, Ikebana International has performed important roles of international exchange time and time again.

Through the many styles and schools of Ikebana, you promote cultural exchange and create goodwill between Japan and the US that is accessible through publications, local, national and international conferences.

Looking around tonight I am thoroughly impressed with these stunning examples of your art as well as all that your chapter has accomplished.

I wish you continued success for many years to come.

Thank you.
