Thank you Shara and good evening honorable guests, ladies and gentlemen:
It is a great pleasure and honor for me to be here with you on this special night as the Japan America Society of Houston celebrates its 40th anniversary. I am privileged to share the stage with such distinguished representatives of the Japan-America partnership that this society has fostered over the past four decades through exchange, culture and community.
Over the past 40 years, JASH has been the heart of Japanese culture in the Houston community.The Japan-America Society has organized countless events that actively give a voice to Japan here in Houston such as the annual Japan Festival, the Japanese Speech Contest and the Houston-Chiba sister-city programs. It is invigorating to see an organization so committed to increasing Japan’s place in the mind of Americans.
I am honored that we have been joined here tonight by four outstanding guests who have come to join us in celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Japan-America Society. These four guests embody the qualities that make the Japan-America Society what it is today.
Similar to our distinguished guests, I believe that the Japan-America Society has made great contributions for Japanese culture here in Houston and it will continue to achieve great success.
May the Society continue building friendships between Japan and the United States for many more years to come.
