Conferment Ceremony of the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation to Mr. William H. Weiland, former President of JASH

On June 18, the Consulate-General of Japan in Houston held a conferment ceremony of the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation to Mr. William H. Weiland, former President of the Japan-America Society of Houston (JASH). The ceremony took place at the Consul-General’s official residence.
Consul-General Fukushima expressed appreciation for Mr. Weiland’s dedication to promoting friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and the Houston area as JASH’s core officer. Special praise was given to Mr. Weiland’s accomplishments in establishing the Japanese Garden in Hermann Park and developing Japan Festival Houston into a premier event.
In response, Mr. Weiland gave thanks for the Commendation honoring his more than 30 years with JASH and whole-hearted promotion of Japan-US exchange. He offered special gratitude for the support of his wife Linda and his colleagues at the Japan-America Society of Houston. He also had kind words for the Consulate and requested its continued support for JASH.
Next, Consul-General Fukushima presented Mr. Weiland with the Certificate of the Foreign Minister’s Commendation and a commemorative gift. Finally, the participants gathered for photographs with Mr. and Mrs. Weiland.
