On October 4, Consul-General Fukushima conferred a Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation on Ms. Elaine Browning, former President of the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth (JASDFW), during JASDFW’s 2021 Sun & Star Legacy Award Dinner in Frisco, Texas.

Consul-General Fukushima expressed deep appreciation for Ms. Browning’s efforts to build friendship between Japan and North Texas in her JASDFW leadership roles, including as the organization’s President from 2014 to 2016. In particular, he offered special praise for Ms. Browning’s service as the Host Cities Coordinator for the highly successful 2012 Japan-America Grassroots Summit in North Texas. He concluded by saying that he was truly grateful to be the person presenting the certificate as one of his final duties as Consul-General.

After these remarks, the Consul-General presented Ms. Browning with the Certificate of Commendation and a commemorative gift on behalf of Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.

In return, Ms. Browning expressed her great honor to be included among the many distinguished recipients of the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation, and spoke about her efforts in JASDFW as being offered in return for all the kindness she received during her years living in Japan. She concluded by encouraging all those in attendance to do their part in furthering the Kizuna (or interpersonal bonds) between Japan and North Texas.
